Software Masters, Inc. -- History
We began writing computer programs over 20 years ago when the first Radio Shack Model III came on the market. Shortly thereafter, we welcomed the IBM-compatible stage. In the early days, we started writing database programs with several shareware offerings. Our first was Data Manager, a program that managed messages, calendar items, directories, recipes, etc. We then started getting calls from regular businesses that wanted a program similar to Data Manager, only one that would be customized to fit their needs.

About 15 years ago, we had our first business client, an Insurancy Agency. After we wrote a program for them, we started getting referrals from some of their clients. When Data Mangers was written up in a national magazine, we started getting additional calls from around the country. When we wrote a program for a Town Clerk in New York and then sold that program to about 30 other offices, we opened up our own office. We hired two full time programmers, a secretary and we were in business. We have now written programs for a large variety of business types and have an extensive library of coded modules.

Specialities
Our specialities are databases. We are excellent in designing a "normalized" database that maximizes efficiency. Our programs are created in such a way to require a minimum amount of key strokes, ensure data integrity through dropdown list boxes where you set up what will be in the dropdown boxes, as well as other validation routines. We use Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL Server to house the data, depending upon needs of the application. For the user interface, we use Microsoft Visual Basic for desktop applications and Microsoft Visual InterDev for Internet and Intranet applications. We are also proficient in Seagate's Crystal Reports to generate high quality reports.

Finally, as the owner, I am a Certified Microsoft Professional and a Certified Novell Administrator. I am also a Certified Visual Basic Developer and a Certified Microsoft Web Developer.

Experience
One of our first programs was for a construction company that was used to track repairs on their equipment and calculate when they needed to perform scheduled maintenance. When we were asked to write a program to track service on sewing machines for a large sportswear manufacturer, Champion Sportswear, we used the same module that tracked service on equipment for the construction company.

And that is what we have done since -- we write modules that can be reused in other applications, significantly reducing the development time, and more importantly the costs. Also, reusing tested and validated modules also cuts down on the chances that a bug will exist in the code.
